A picture from one planted locally caught my eye as there seemed such a holy reverence in the images. It inspired this which I thought might be apt to post in the randomness of the space between Christmas and new year.<\/p>\n<p>They felled the tree,<br \/>\nand for a moment the gap grew wider<br \/>\na space by an ancient wall,<br \/>\nan ache in the air.<br \/>\nYet even in absence,<br \/>\nsomething holy lingered.<br \/>\nThe earth itself began to hum<br \/>\nwith all the waiting things.<\/p>\n<p>Now across the land people kneel in winter rain,<br \/>\nhands muddy with faith,<br \/>\npressing small roots into cold earth.<br \/>\nEach sapling a testament<br \/>\nthat what is lost is not forgotten,<br \/>\nthat gaps can cradle more than grief.<\/p>\n<p>God is not afraid of empty spaces.<br \/>\nThe womb,<br \/>\nthe manger,<br \/>\nthe gap between promise and fulfilment,<br \/>\nall tremble with the same possibility.<br \/>\nSo we wait, we dig<br \/>\nand plant, with hope<br \/>\nbreathing reverence into the soil,<br \/>\ntrusting light will find a way again.<br \/>\nSo places one laid bare with winters frosty hue,<br \/>\nWill teem with laughter, swings and shade for summer\u2019s glow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love reading about the planting of the sycamore gap saplings.
